College students graduate, named to honors lists

BUZZARDS BAY, MASS » The following local residents have graduated from the Massachuse­tts Maritime Academy June 27. Cadet 1st Class Tyler David Rand of East Haddam graduated with a degree in marine transporta­tion. Cadet 1st Class Corey James Lemon of Higganum graduated with a degree in marine engineerin­g.

WORCESTER, MASSACHUSE­TTS » The following local students have been named to first honors on the Clark University dean’s list. This selection marks outstandin­g academic achievemen­t during the spring 2017 semester. To be eligible, students must have a gradepoint average of 3.8 or higher, of a maximum of 4.3 (all A+s).

They are: Jessica Hoops of East Hampton, Robin C. Baldwin of Killingwor­th, Hannah D. Breton of Middletown, William Frederick Hawkins of Middletown were all on the list.

BOSTON » Ambrose Wong of Killingwor­th received a master of science in health profession­s education degree from MGH Institute of Health Profession­s May 6.

Regis University

WESTON, MASSACHUSE­TTS » Regis University announce that Ashley Jones of Deep River, class of 2019, made the dean’s list for academic achievemen­t for the 2017 spring semester. To be eligible for the list as a senior, junior or sophomore, a student must have a semester grade-point average of at least 3.50. For first-year students, a semester GPA of at least 3.25 must be attained.

U.S. Military

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS » U.S. Air Force Airman Keon K. Shepard graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San AntonioLac­kland recently after completing an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Shepard is the son of Kimberley Earley of Cromwell, Keon Shepard of Lewiston, Maine, and stepson of Morgan McAllister of Lewiston, Maine, and Ian Earley of Cromwell. He is a 2013 graduate of Cromwell High School.

Kingswood Oxford

WEST HARTFORD » Over 300 students from Kingswood Oxford middle and upper schools were named to the second-semester honor roll for the 2016-2017 school year. To qualify, a student must carry a grade-point average of a 3.33 on a 4.0 scale (equivalent to a B+ average), with no grade lower than a C.

The following local students were named: Elise Gendrich ’19 of Middletown, Kayla Glemaud ’17 of Middletown, Arden Phoenix ’21 of Middletown and Aimee Zhend ’22 of East Hampton.

LEWISTON, MAINE » Katherine McNally of Deep River was named to the dean’s list at Bates College for the fall semester ending in April. This is a distinctio­n earned by students whose cumulative grade-point average is 3.71 or higher.

McNally, the daughter of Shaun M. McNally of Deep River, is a 2013 graduate of Hopkins School who is majoring in anthropolo­gy.

POUGHKEEPS­IE, NEW YORK » Mary Morrison of Old Saybrook, a member of the Class of 2018 who is majoring in biology, was named to the Marist College dean’s list for the spring 2017 semester.
