VENTURE SMITH DAY: The 21th annual Venture Smith Day Festivities will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, 1-4 p.m. in the cemetery at the First Church of Christ, 499 Town Street (RT. 151), East Haddam, where he is buried (1729-1805). Those interested in learning more about Connecticut history in the 1700 and 1800s are attend. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket. In case of inclement weather the celebration will move into the parish house of First Church. There will be plenty of time to renew old friendships, talk with speakers, and Venture’s descendants and enjoy light refreshments in the Parish Hall next to the cemetery. ELECTRIC CAR SHOW: The East Hampton Clean Energy Task Force, a volunteer committee dedicated to promoting green energy alternatives, will hold an Electric Car Show Sept. 9, 12-4 p.m. at Sears Park. Rain date is Sept. 23. The event will showcase electric, hybrid, and alternative fuel cars from various dealerships including Chevrolet, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, BMW, and mow. Any residents who own any electric, hybrid, or alternative fuel vehicle are invited to show their clean energy machine too. There is no registration fee; the deadline to register cars is Sept. 1. IMMIGRANT FUNDRAISER: The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme (FCCOL) will hold “An Evening in Celebration of Our Immigrant Roots” featuring silent auctions, raffle contests, wine tastings, free hors d’oeuvres and live music, to raise money to help local immigrant families facing sudden deportations, Sept. 9, 5-8 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.
