Area college students earn distinction

Dean College

FRANKLIN, Mas. — The School of the Arts at Dean College’s production of “Legally Blonde” Nov. 15 to 19 will feature Nick Maturo of Middletown, who will have a principal role in the show.

“Legally Blonde” will take place at the Campus Center Main Stage at 99 Main St. at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Admission is $22; seniors, $12 and children, $7.

SALISBURY, Maryland — Hillary Ramsdell, daughter of Carl and Carla Ramsdell of Westbrook, has been accepted into Phi Eta Sigma, the national freshman honor society at Salisbury University.

Ramsdell is a sophomore majoring in communication arts and 2015 graduate of Westbrook High School.

Longwood University

FARMVILLE, Virginia — Mechelle Helen Gardner, of Haddam, who is among the spring graduates at Longwood University, was s awarded an undergraduate degree in anthropology.

University of Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyo. — Jennifer Husman, of Middletown, was among University of Wyoming students who earned degrees at the completion of the summer term.

Husman received a doctor of nursing practice.

Valley Regional High School

DEEP RIVER — Isabelle M. McDonald, a student at Valley Regional High School, has been named a Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.

About 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.

Although she will not continue in the 2018 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, McDonald placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Also, Kevin M. Baldwin has been named a semifinalist in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program, which honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

He will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for a National Merit Scholarship next spring.

He is one of 16,000 semifinalists in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

Basic military training

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — U.S. Air Force Airman William L. Sullivan graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland recently. Sullivan is the son of Karen Perruccio and brother of Tyler Sullivan, of Middletown, and a 2013 graduate of Middletown High School.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Those who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
