Last shot for flu vaccines at area clinics
MIDDLETOWN — Seasonal flu shots will be available during the remaining Mass Dispensing Area 36: Cromwell, Durham, Middlefield and Middletown health departments clinics.
The Flublok vaccine will be offered. It is a pure manufactured vaccine which does not contain preservatives, harsh chemicals, gelatin, gluten, antibiotics thimerosal (mercury derivative), latex or formaldehyde.
Flublok contains three times more antigens than traditional flu vaccines, so it offers better protection against this year’s influenza strains, according to a press release from the city’s health office.
To receive a flu shot, participants must be at least 4-years-o;d and in good health. They should bring a valid form of identification (such as a driver’s license) and insurance card (co-payment will not be required). Those without insurance may be eligible to receive a flu shot at no cost. Vaccines will be given on a first-come, first-served basis (appointments will not be taken). Residency is not required.
Anyone over 18 years of age will be offered the Flublok vaccine. Participants under 18 will receive traditional influenza vaccine. Both vaccines will be administered by injection only (nasal mist will not be available).
Remaining clinics are: Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Middlefield Community Center, 405 Main St.; Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Activity Center, 350 Main St., Durham; and Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at City Hall Council Chambers, 245 deDoven Drive, Middletown.
