Wilbur Cross HOF induction ceremony to be held April 12
Seven people and one team will be inducted into the 2018 Wilbur Cross Athletic Hall of Fame April 12 at the Country House on Foxon Road.
The inductees are: Terri Claxton-Askew (1985), a former 1,000-point scorer who helped lead Cross to the 1984 Class LL state championship; Micky Heard & Roland Jones (1972), both former basketball standouts; Wayne Allen (1982), track and field; George Providence (1978), football ; Michael J. Zuccarelli Jr. (1966), hockey; Junie Vuolo, assistant football coach; and the school’s 1994 indoor & outdoor State Open champions.
Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. with dinner and presentation of awards to follow starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $60 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the Wilbur Cross High main office. Ask for Lisa.
JCC SCHOOLBOY/SCHOOLGIRL CLASSIC
The 57th JCC Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Classic will be held April 8 at the Cardinal Shehan Center in Bridgeport.
The girls game begins at 1 p.m., Connecticut East vs. West, followed by the boys game at 3, Connecticut vs. New Jersey. Tickets are $10 for both games.

CHSCA RECOGNITION DINNER
The Connecticut High School Coaches Association will honor 24 coaches as Outstanding Coaches of the Year, an Athletic Director of the Year and Announce three special awards at the 54th annual Recognition Dinner on May 10 at 7 p.m. in Kay’s Pier at the Aqua Turf in Southington.
To be honored are Athletic Director of the Year Joseph Madaffari of McMahon; former Maloney softball coach Scott Aresco will receive the Thomas Monahan CHSCA Honor Award; Branford’s Bill O’Brien will be awarded the Joseph J. Fontana Distinguished Service Award; and Gina Simeone of Nfinity will receive the Joseph Calvanese Sponsorship Award.
