Nobel Laureate to talk on Paris Climate Accords
PORTLAND — Nobel Laureate Dr. Gary W. Yohe will discuss the ramifications of President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accords at a Q&A Thursday.
Yohe, a Huffington Professor of economics and environmental studies at Wesleyan University, will speak at the Portland Senior Center at The Waverly Center, 7 Waverly Ave., beginning at 7 p.m.
Yohe shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former vice president Al Gore.
The appearance is cosponsored by the Portland Clean Energy Task Force and the East Hampton Energy commission.
In announcing the program, Andy Bauer, the chairman of the clean energy task force, said the presentation is a timely one. “Dr. Yohe has been analyzing climate trends and advocating for action for decades. We need to get busy.”
In addition to review the possible impacts of the president’s decision to withdraw from the climate accords, Yohe will also “present the most recent findings from not only the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change but also the National Climate Assessment,” Bauer said.
“After a summary of the state of our climate and the politics in play, we look forward to a robust Q&A with those in attendance,” Bauer added.
Light refreshments will be served following the program.
