Artists sought for sculpture walk
KENSINGTON — The New Britain Youth Museum needs artists to submit their work for a Summer Solstice Sculpture Walk that will take place for one day at Hungerford Park at 191 Farmington Avenue, in Kensington, on June 22, 3-6:30 p.m. The Juror for the show will be Keith Gervase, Collections Manager, New Britain Museum of American Art.
This collaborative arts event that will take place on the grounds on the pond trail the day before the summer solstice. Artists may submit work in sculpture, public art or 3-dimensional media based on this years’ theme of Wind, Water and Wildlife. The show is a collaboration with the Art League of New Britain.
In addition to the sculpture walk, we will be planning a full day of events, including a children’s and youth art show, artist demonstrations, and a concluding awards reception. There will be an opportunity for artists to sell their work at a designated location on the grounds.
First prize is $750; second Prize is $500; third Prize is $250; Honorable Mention gets $100; Peoples’ Choice Award is a Gift Certificate for Artists Materials. All submitted works must be constructed from materials that can withstand exposure to variable weather conditions.
The works will be displayed in an unprotected, public area for one day only, so all submitted works must be structurally sound enough to withstand some handling, touching, and possible physical stress. There will be no security in place after the designated times for the event so all artists will have to arrange to place their artwork(s) before the show and pick up their work afterward. Work needs to be installed by June 22 at 2 p.m. and removed after 6:30 p.m. We are not responsible for work left after the event.
