Local man charged with forgery
WETHERSFIELD — A Middlefield man has been charged with second-degree forgery in connection with a state Department of Motor Vehicles investigation, police said.
John Silvestri, 33, of Louis Road, turned himself in to police at Troop F barracks in Westbrook on Friday, police said.
Connecticut State Police were asked by the DMV to assist in an investigation related to an altered insurance document by Silvestri LLC. The document was presented to the Commercial Safety Division to secure a state contract for snow plowing.
Following an investigation by DMV and Department of Administrative Services officials, they concluded someone with Silvestri LLC altered the document and the company had failed its DMV safety inspection. An arrest warrant was inssued as a result of the investigation, police said.
According to police, Silvestri admitted to an investigator that his company was “shopping around” for better insurance quotes and did not have the proper insurance at the time of the request, so a portion of the insurance accord stating “snow removal libability is excluded” was manually redacted by staff.
Silvestri reportedly told police it was not done maliciously.
Silvestri was released after posting $500 nonsurety bail. He is scheduled to appear in court in Middletown on May 23.
Police said there are no further arrests expected in connection with the case.
