Lit­er­acy Vol­un­teers of­fer train­ing

Lit­er­acy Vol­un­teers of Cen­tral Con­necti­cut is seek­ing vol­un­teers. Be­come a tu­tor with LVCC and help our adult stu­dents achieve their work, fam­ily, and com­mu­nity goals.

All prospec­tive tu­tors must be age 18 and over with a min­i­mum of a high school diploma (or equiv­a­lent) and good writ­ing skills. Ob­ser­va­tions, sup­port, and train­ing will be pro­vided.

There will be train­ing for peo­ple in­ter­ested in work­ing with adult stu­dents who need help speak­ing English, read­ing and writ­ing. This English for Speakers of Other Lan­guages tu­tor train­ing will be held on all of the fol­low­ing dates: July 9, 12, 16, 19 (10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) at the New Bri­tain Pub­lic Li­brary. All dates must be at­tended.

Those with a back­ground as an ed­u­ca­tor may qual­ify to waive this tu­tor train­ing.

Lit­er­acy Vol­un­teers of Cen­tral CT pro­vides small group and oneon-one lit­er­acy tu­tor­ing to over 350 low lit­er­ate adults through stu­dent cen­tered learn­ing and men­tor­ing, from vol­un­teer tu­tors who re­ceive high qual­ity train­ing and on­go­ing sup­port.
