NEW HAVEN — Jim Fuller, who has covered professional tennis in some capacity throughout his 29 years with the New Haven Register was honored by the Connecticut Open with the Dave Solomon Media Award Thursday night.

Fuller, who has covered everything from Little League and high school sports to local colleges, UConn and the WNBA, is presently the UConn football and Connecticut Sun beat writer for Hearst Connecticut Media.

“I have never worked with anyone who works harder or cares more about the beats he covers than Jim Fuller,” Register sports editor Sean Barker said.

Solomon, the longtime staff writer and columnist for the Register, was killed in a one-car motor vehicle accident in 2011.

Fuller worked with Solomon for 22 years over two stints with the New Haven Register.

“When I started there was a Murderer’s Row of sports writers at the Register with George Wadley, Tom McCormack and Dave Solomon. I remember walking in that first day and just being overwhelmed with fear meeting Dave Solomon. He was everything I wanted to be.”
