DRS to hold Family Fun Day
PORTLAND — Disaster Restoration Services, a member company of DKI, North America's largest disaster restoration contracting organization, is hosting a Family Fun Day at Portland Riverfront Park on Sept. 15, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event will include carnival games, a cornhole and jousting tournament, a bounce house, live music, crafts and food. The National Women in Roofing will be hosting a Stuff-A-Truck to provide supplies for the Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp.
Tickets are available in advance for $10 per adult, or $5 per child, or you may purchase at the door for $5 more per person. All proceeds from the event will be given to the Connecticut Burns Care Foundation to provide lodging, meals and activities for the Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp.
The Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp is a safe, natural outdoor environment for children 8 to 18 who have survived lifealtering burn injuries. To learn more about the camp, visit www.ctburnsfoundation.org.

Singers invited to audition for chorale
MIDDLETOWN — The GMChorale invites interested singers in all voice parts to audition to join the ensemble as it prepares for its 42nd concert season.
The 80-voice GMChorale, led by Artistic Director Joseph D’Eugenio, performs two major concerts each season, often with full orchestra, and is often invited to perform with other ensembles, including the Hartford Chorale, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, and others.
Singers interested in joining the chorale may participate in open rehearsals on Tuesday before scheduling a private audition.
Those who wish to audition will be asked to prepare and sing a classical art song, a folk song, hymn or carol (accompaniment will be provided); sing a major scale a cappella in the appropriate voice range; and prepare and sing (with accompaniment) the appropriate voice part of two choral selections.
The GMChorale rehearses in Cromwell on Tuesday evenings. Members pay annual dues, purchase their own music, and provide their own concert attire.

Boobstock music fest returns for 6th year
DEEP RIVER — The sixth annual Boobstock, a mini music fest to raise money for special programs and services for breast cancer patients at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven (Boutique) and Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center (Comprehensive Breast Center), will be held Sept. 15, 1-6 p.m. at the John (Jan) III Sobieski Club, 10 Woodland Road, Deep River, at 860-526-5211.
Tickets are $25 for ages 12-64 and $15 for ages 5-11 or over 65, ages 4 under are free. Dozens of prizes, T-shirts and bandanas, coosies and bumper stickers will be given away. Museum to hold Onrust benefit
ESSEX — Guests can experience the Netherlands as the Connecticut River Museum hosts a night to support The Onrust Project on Friday, 5:30-8 p.m.
Enjoy Dutch culture with samples of traditional food and drinks, play classic Dutch tavern games, hear music, and witness a cannon demonstration, all from the museum’s north deck overlooking the Connecticut River.
The Onrust is a reproduction of the famed Captain Adriaen Block’s 1614 era vessel that was the first European vessel to chart and explore Long Island Sound, parts of Rhode Island and the Connecticut River.

Farm-to-Chef dinner set in New Britain
NEW BRITAIN — Urth Farms (a 4.5-acre organic urban farm located at 207 Oak St., New Britain, invites resident for a meal and cocktail competition on Saturday, from 1-5 p.m. to celebrate “From the Urth to your Glass” a farm dinner experience with small plate samplings from the following restaurants as a preview to Connecticut Farm to Chef Week (Sept. 16-22) from: Plan b Restaurants (Plan b Burger Bar), Butchers & Bakers, Tisane Euro Asian Cafe and The Half Door.
Mason Jar Margaritas will be available to purchase for $7 (which includes a signature mason jar to take home). The margaritas will feature New Haven based, naturally produced, Drink Ripe mixer, and Tequila Cazadores.
New Britain’s own Alvarium Beer Co. is the beer sponsor for the event. In addition to chef driven small plates and live music, a cocktail competition featuring local mixologists using foraged farm foraged produce and herbs/ingredients, and Drink Ripe Mixers will be emceed by local actress, comedian, and cocktail enthusiast Carolyn Paine.
