MIDDLETOWN — The 9th annual Run for the Fallen CT will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, Middletown.

The run is an all-day event designed around a 65KM course that dedicates one kilometer to 65 fallen servicemen and women from Connecticut and provides an opportunity to honor those heroes who sacrificed their lives during wars in Afghanistan and Iraq post 9/11/01.

Runners, walkers and volunteers are encouraged to participate. The run is divided into eight laps beginning and ending at Veterans Memorial Park, home of the Connecticut Trees of Honor Memorial. The first group of runners will step off at 6 a.m. and runners will depart every hour, on the hour, through 1 p.m. There will be a remembrance ceremony at 2:30 p.m. upon completion of the final lap.

Several dignitaries and Gold Star family members will be in attendance this year. We expect over 150 runners and 200 visitors to attend. While the event is free to all, donations are always welcome. Various events will go on throughout the day, including martial arts demonstrations and a children’s activity area and bounce house that will be available to visitors.

Several nonprofit and military service organizations will speak with visitors and hand out information on their programs and services. Volunteers are always needed the day of the event to assist in multiple areas. Information and links for runner and volunteer registration are located on the Run for the Fallen CT website. Food and beverages donated by various sponsors will be available, free of charge, throughout the day for all participants, volunteers and Gold Star families.

Run for the Fallen CT is a 501(c)(3) charity that relies on donations to continue the work of honoring and remembering our fallen heroes. Those interested in sponsorship opportunities or wishing to make any donation can visit Run for the Fallen CT at www.runforthefallenct.org.
