No UConn players named to All-AAC teams

- By Jim Fuller

The American Athletic Conference football postseason awards did have a Connecticut representative as Temple’s Isaiah Wright, a Kingswood Oxford graduate, was named the conference’s special teams player of the year.

However, no UConn players were named to the first or second teams or named as honorable mention selections. It is just the second time since the conference’s debut in 2013 that a team had no representatives joining the 2014 UConn squad.

Senior quarterback David Pindell led all FBS quarterbacks with 1,139 rushing yards. In conference play, Pindell ran for 842 yards in eight games and only Memphis running back Darrell Henderson had more rushing yards. He also finished second in total offense in AAC play. Pindell did have three conference games in AAC play with sub-100 passer ratings. Only two quarterbacks were selected to the team and it is hard to argue against either UCF’s McKenzie Milton, who

doubled as the conference’s offensive player of the year, or Houston’s D’Eriq King, who ranks in the top 10

nationally in total offense, being the two quarterbacks honored by the conference.

Luke Magliozzi set a UConn single-season record by averaging 42.9 yards per punt with just two touchbacks among 63

punts. However, Cincinnati’s James Smith and Tulsa’s Thomas Bennett rank fourth and fifth among FBS punters in punting average.

Aaron McLean was third among AAC tight ends with 32 receptions and 396 receiving yards but he wasn’t among the three tight ends honored.
