Rep. Serra sworn in for 14th term
HARTFORD — State Rep. Joseph Serra, D-Middletown, has begun his 14th term representing the 33rd District at the state Capitol and was reappointed chairman of the Committee on Aging.
He was sworn in to the General Assembly Wednesday. Serra was also reappointed to serve on the Transportation Committee and appointed to serve on the Public Safety and Security Committee, according to a news release.
“I am honored to represent the people of the 33rd House District, and will continue working diligently to improve the quality of life for everyone throughout the state,” Serra said in a prepared statement. “We must support all of Connecticut’s residents and make sure our state is a safe and productive place to live and work,” he added.
The Aging Committee supports and deliberates over matters concerning all senior citizens. In past years, the committee worked to address issues of abuse, neglect and abandonment of older adults, and balancing the state’s system of long-term care, according to the release.
The Transportation Committee will focus on developing and reviewing policies and strategies to improve state highways, bridges, aeronautics and railroad systems, as well as other matters pertaining to the state departments of transportation and motor vehicles, and state traffic commission.
The Public Safety and Security Committee has cognizance over all matters relating to the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, and addresses issues of civil preparedness and homeland security, state police, fire safety code, state building code and legalized gambling, the release said.
“Rep. Serra has the necessary experience to help bring positive change in our state, and I am particularly pleased he will continue to lead our Aging Committee,” Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz, D-Berlin, Southington, said in the statement.
“Rep. Serra brings a proven commitment to developing policies to help improve the quality of life for everyone in our state,” he added.
