Trolley Museum offers operator training course Saturdays in March
EAST HAVEN — The Shore Line Trolley Museum will offer its annual trolley operator training course during Saturdays in March, according to CEO and Executive Director John Proto.
The course, required to become qualified as a volunteer trolley operator at the museum, will be offered March 2, March 9, March 16, March 23 and March 30. No previous experience is required, Proto said in a release.
The course will cover the mechanical aspects of trolley car operation, railway rules and safety, history and visitor interaction, Proto said. You must be 18 years old by the conclusion of the course and you must hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license from any U.S. state.
The fee for the class is $70 ($110 for non-members, which includes your first year’s membership.) It covers all training materials, including your rulebook and instructional handouts.

After completing the course, participants undergo an apprenticeship period before they are fully qualified to operate “solo.”
Class size is limited to provide a quality instructional experience. During the past few years, the class has “sold out,” so the museum encourages prospective participants
to respond early, Proto said.
