Bowl-mak­ing work­shops

HE­BRON — Stu­dents and staff are prep­ping for their 3rd Bi­en­nial Empty Bowls Din­ner event to be held in the Spring of 2020 by plan­ning work­shops for vol­un­teers to par­tic­i­pate in mak­ing soup bowls. This year, the goal is to make 300 soup bowls to be of­fered to din­ner at­ten­dees at the next event. No ex­pe­ri­ence nec­es­sary to par­tic­i­pate in mak­ing bowls.

Pre-reg­is­tra­tion for work­shops is re­quired to at­tend, with a imit of 20 par­tic­i­pants per work­shop. Call 860-228-9474 ex. 2946 or email Car­rie Di­n­un­zio to sign up at car­rie.di­n­un­[email protected]­

The 2018 Empty Bowls Din­ner raised more than $7,000 for the food banks in He­bron, An­dover and Marl­bor­ough. Work­shops will be held on Fri­day after­noon and Satur­day morn­ing or after­noon in the ce­ram­ics room at RHAM High School. Art teach­ers Car­rie Di­n­un­zio and Bev­er­ley Fisher will run all work­shops with the as­sis­tance of Na­tional Art Honor So­ci­ety stu­dents.

Staff, stu­dents and community mem­bers are in­vited to at­tend work­shops and no ex­pe­ri­ence is nec­es­sary for be­gin­ner work­shops. Any­one in­ter­ested in learn­ing to work with clay and get a lit­tle messy for the cause can sign up for be­gin­ner work­shops. In­ter­me­di­ate work­shops are for vol­un­teers com­fort­able work­ing more in­de­pen­dently with the clay. Glaz­ing will be done at Be­gin­ner work­shops start­ing in Fe­bru­ary. We are also seek­ing ex­pe­ri­enced wheel throw­ers who would be will­ing to use their tal­ents to make bowls ei­ther at the school or in their own stu­dio spa­ces. Clay will be pro­vided.

Work­shop sched­ule: Feb. 22, 3-5 p.m., begin­ners; Feb. 23, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., in­ter­me­di­ate, March 9, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., begin­ners; March 30, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., begin­ners; April 5, 3-5 p.m., in­ter­me­di­ate; April 27, 2-4 p.m., be­gin­ers, glaz­ing only.
