Applicants sought for Sal Salafia award
Initiated in 1997, the Sal Salafia Community Award, a $1,000 scholarship, is awarded to a graduating Middletown secondary school student who has demonstrated excellence in community service in Middletown. Applicants must include a detailed description of their service, how they have been changed by it, and why they should be recognized — in an essay no longer than 750 words.
A brief letter must accompany the essay from a senior representative of the organizations from the community service organization, along with a letter of recommendation from the school guidance counselor, and signed by the parent or guardian. Students must have maintained a 3.0 (B) average and provide a grade transcript.
Students from Middletown High School, Mercy High School, Vinal Regional Vocational Tech or Xavier High School may apply.
