Thank you for this opportunity to speak to the media regarding the 1999 University of Connecticut National Championship Men’s Basketball Team.

As a former student athlete at UConn, we set a preseason goal of winning a National Championship. The unselfish nature of my teammates and the sacrifices we all made as a team to achieve our goal is something that I will always remember and utilize as a teaching tool to the players who I coach and mentor now and in the future.

The opportunity given to us to be recognized by the University of Connecticut for this great accomplishment in ultimately defeating a highly favored Duke team, is truly special. I’ve been a part of 2 National Championships, 3 Big East Championships and 1 AAC Conference Championship at the University of Connecticut. I regret that I’m unable to attend this prestigious celebration.

I am unable to attend this celebration with my family, former teammates and coaches because, as a former UConn men’s basketball assistant coach, there is a current NCAA investigation of the program under Coach Ollie’s tenure. As part of the ongoing investigation, I am unable to speak about the program, or the current state of affairs and definitely do not want to detract from the recognition and celebration which the 1999 National Championship Team deserves.

Please note that I have fully cooperated with the NCAA and the University of Connecticut during this investigation and I’m pleased to announce that I recently received a letter of clearance of any allegations of wrongdoing on my part. Thus I look forward to resuming my coaching career at the collegiate level very soon.

I hope that you can respect my current situation with regard to the ongoing investigate and I am happy to entertain any questions regarding the 1999 National Championship Team and it’s place in UConn Men’s Basketball history.
