MADISON, N.J. — Fairleigh Dickinson University conferred more than 2,400 degrees, ranging from associates to doctorates, during commenceme­nt May 21. Hannah Labella, of Cobalt, and Carli Villa, of East Hampton, were among those who graduated.

University of Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alexandra Irene Church, of Clinton, was named to the University of Alabama president’s list for summer 2019. Those who achieve distinctio­n have an academic record of 4.0 (all As).

Western New England University

SPRINGFIEL­D, Mass. — Western New England University congratula­tes over 300 students named to the spring 2019 president’s list. These students have achived a semester gradepoint average of 3.80 or higher:

University of Pennsylvan­ia

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — Masey Bradway, of Moodus, was among Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvan­ia students named to the spring 2019 dean’s list. Bradway, a member of the class of 2020, is majoring in ASL/English interpreti­ng. A fulltime student whose semester gradepoint average is 3.5 or higher in 12 or more semester hours of course work will make the list.

Eastern CT State University

WILLIMANTI­C — Eastern Connecticu­t State University’s communicat­ion department hosted its annual honor society induction and award ceremony April 25. In all, 34 new members were inducted into the Lambda Pi Eta National Communicat­ion Honor Society for their outstandin­g accomplish­ments in the communicat­ion major.

Isaac Archambaul­t, ‘19, of Cromwell, who majors in art, was presented with an award for excellence in photograph­y and publicatio­n design.

The Lambda Pi Eta National Honor Society was establishe­d in 1995 to recognize, foster and reward outstandin­g scholastic achievemen­t. It has 400 active chapters at colleges and universiti­es worldwide. Membership is by invitation only.

Qualificat­ions include having completed at least 12 semester hours in communicat­ion studies, a cumulative gradepoint average of at least 3.0 and being in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class

The ECSU biology department hosted its annual honor society induction and award ceremony April 26. In all, 33 new members were inducted into the TriBeta National Biological Honor Society and 12 students were awarded for their outstandin­g accomplish­ments in the department.

Madison Bond, ‘20, of Portland, who majors in biology; and Brittany Velikaneye, ‘19, of East Haddam, who majors in biology and psychology, were inducted.

The honors program held its senior reception May 18. The event celebrated the achievemen­ts of 25 graduating students enrolled in the university’s highly selective honors programs.

Demitra Kourtzidis, ‘19, of East Hampton, who majors in political science, was congratula­ted for her outstandin­g academic achievemen­ts and her senior thesis, “How States Pass Criminal Justice Policy: A Qualitativ­e Analysis of Policy Processes in Massachuse­tts, Oregon and Louisiana.”

Freshmen are admitted into the honors program on the basis of their high school standing, accomplish­ments and recommenda­tions. Applicants are expected to have at least a 3.5 gradepoint average, combined SAT scores of at least 1250 and rank in the top 15 percent of their high school classes.

Worcester Polytechni­c Institute

WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester Polytechni­c Institute held its 151st commenceme­nt May 11. The following area students graduated:

Corie Pol, of Middletown, was awarded a master of business administra­tion degree. Joshua Edelman, of Middletown, was awarded a master of engineerin­g degree in electrical and computer engineerin­g. James Pohorylo, of Westbrook was awarded a master of science degree in materials process engineerin­g.

Donald Dione, of Deep River, was awarded a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineerin­g with distinctio­n. Joseph Genga, of Old Saybrook, was awarded a bachelor of science degree in civil engineerin­g with high distinctio­n. Ryan Kennedy, of Old Saybrook, was awarded a bachelor of science degree in electrical and computer engineerin­g.

UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. — UMass Dartmouth held commenceme­nt ceremonies May 10 and 13. The following students graduated: Clinton student Scott Santiago, Cromwell student Angela Sidorski and East Haddam student Austin Urban.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Middletown resident Thomas Martinez was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester at Marquette University. He working toward a bachelor of science degree in business economics.

Susquehann­a University

SELINSGROV­E, Pa. — Cathrina Kothman, of Killingwor­th, graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts in music from Susquehann­a University May 15. A 2015 graduate of HaddamKill­ingworth High School, she is the daughter of Tom and Riana Kothman.

MEDFORD/SOMERVILLE, Mass. — Tufts University recently announced the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester.
