Fairleigh Dickinson University
MADISON, N.J. — Fairleigh Dickinson University conferred more than 2,400 degrees, ranging from associates to doctorates, during commencement May 21. Hannah Labella, of Cobalt, and Carli Villa, of East Hampton, were among those who graduated.
University of Alabama
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alexandra Irene Church, of Clinton, was named to the University of Alabama president’s list for summer 2019. Those who achieve distinction have an academic record of 4.0 (all As).
Western New England University
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Western New England University congratulates over 300 students named to the spring 2019 president’s list. These students have achived a semester gradepoint average of 3.80 or higher:

University of Pennsylvania
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — Masey Bradway, of Moodus, was among Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania students named to the spring 2019 dean’s list. Bradway, a member of the class of 2020, is majoring in ASL/English interpreting. A fulltime student whose semester gradepoint average is 3.5 or higher in 12 or more semester hours of course work will make the list.
Eastern CT State University
WILLIMANTIC — Eastern Connecticut State University’s communication department hosted its annual honor society induction and award ceremony April 25. In all, 34 new members were inducted into the Lambda Pi Eta National Communication Honor Society for their outstanding accomplishments in the communication major.
Isaac Archambault, ‘19, of Cromwell, who majors in art, was presented with an award for excellence in photography and publication design.
The Lambda Pi Eta National Honor Society was established in 1995 to recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement. It has 400 active chapters at colleges and universities worldwide. Membership is by invitation only.
Qualifications include having completed at least 12 semester hours in communication studies, a cumulative gradepoint average of at least 3.0 and being in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class
The ECSU biology department hosted its annual honor society induction and award ceremony April 26. In all, 33 new members were inducted into the TriBeta National Biological Honor Society and 12 students were awarded for their outstanding accomplishments in the department.
Madison Bond, ‘20, of Portland, who majors in biology; and Brittany Velikaneye, ‘19, of East Haddam, who majors in biology and psychology, were inducted.
The honors program held its senior reception May 18. The event celebrated the achievements of 25 graduating students enrolled in the university’s highly selective honors programs.
Demitra Kourtzidis, ‘19, of East Hampton, who majors in political science, was congratulated for her outstanding academic achievements and her senior thesis, “How States Pass Criminal Justice Policy: A Qualitative Analysis of Policy Processes in Massachusetts, Oregon and Louisiana.”
Freshmen are admitted into the honors program on the basis of their high school standing, accomplishments and recommendations. Applicants are expected to have at least a 3.5 gradepoint average, combined SAT scores of at least 1250 and rank in the top 15 percent of their high school classes.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute
WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester Polytechnic Institute held its 151st commencement May 11. The following area students graduated:
Corie Pol, of Middletown, was awarded a master of business administration degree. Joshua Edelman, of Middletown, was awarded a master of engineering degree in electrical and computer engineering. James Pohorylo, of Westbrook was awarded a master of science degree in materials process engineering.
Donald Dione, of Deep River, was awarded a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering with distinction. Joseph Genga, of Old Saybrook, was awarded a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering with high distinction. Ryan Kennedy, of Old Saybrook, was awarded a bachelor of science degree in electrical and computer engineering.
UMass Dartmouth
DARTMOUTH, Mass. — UMass Dartmouth held commencement ceremonies May 10 and 13. The following students graduated: Clinton student Scott Santiago, Cromwell student Angela Sidorski and East Haddam student Austin Urban.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Middletown resident Thomas Martinez was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester at Marquette University. He working toward a bachelor of science degree in business economics.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Cathrina Kothman, of Killingworth, graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts in music from Susquehanna University May 15. A 2015 graduate of HaddamKillingworth High School, she is the daughter of Tom and Riana Kothman.
