Alexis P. Suter Band coming to the MAC

The Milford Arts Council has a Saturday show with the Alexis P. Suter Band. Suter is the owner of a big, booming voice you can hear roaring out of Brooklyn into the heart of North America and beyond. Suter and her band are on the rise as accolades pour in and they continue to captivate audiences from town to town.

Suter continues to be in high demand at North American roots and blues festivals, venues and events. They were privileged enough to open for BB King several times at his club in New York, and were crowd favorites at Levon Helm’s Midnight Rambles. In addition, she has been a featured artist in over 50 blues and roots festivals nationwide.

At the highly prestigiou­s Blues Music Awards presented by The Blues Foundation in Memphis, Suter was nominated for Best Contempora­ry Female Artist in 2017, The Koko Taylor Vocalist in 2015 and for Best Soul/ Blues Female Vocalist in 2013.

Phoenix Dining and Entertainm­ent is keeping Southeaste­rn Connecticu­t on a full blues diet. Friday, The James Montgomery Band and special guest Christine Ohlman will be making the place rock. Montgomery stays in blues traditions alive and has a modern touch. The Beehive Queen brings her hip shakin’ music wherever she goes. Put them together and you have a show that just keeps entertaini­ng. The crowd gets two dynamic performers and a night to remember. The shows do not stop there. Saturday, Brothers of the Road Band come in. Sunday, it is the Delta Generators. Thursday features the Chris Leigh Band.

Infinity Hall in Hartford has a threefer this week. Friday, Dana Fuchs is in town. Fuchs is a raspyvoice­d bluesrocks­oul singer/songwriter whose versatile career has embraced music, theater, and film. With her, all bets are off. The singer’s dazzling career began when she ignited the New York club scene with a run of souldrench­ed albums and a voice acclaimed by Classic Rock magazine as “jukejoint dirty and illicit, evoking Joplin, Jagger and a cigarette bobbing in a glass of bourbon.”

Saturday, Southside Johnny & The Ashbury Jukes take the stage. They continue to deliver their soulsearin­g brand of raucous blues and R&B, with material mined from their many albums

Sunday, the North Mississipp­i Allstars are at Infinity with their Up and Rolling Tour. The North Mississipp­i Allstars have continued to bring in funky hillcountr­y blues associated with Mississipp­i for more than two decades. This distinct sound crosses styles and ages. They are led by the brother team of guitarist Luther Dickinson and drummer/ multiinstr­umentalist Cody Dickinson,

On Wednesday, the

Norwich Arts Center’s Blues on Broadway series presents Bruce Katz, a 2013 Blues Hall of Fame inductee and fivetime nominee for the Blues Foundation’s “Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year.” Joining Katz on the stage of the Donald L. Oat Theater will be his band’s guitarist Aaron Lieberman and special guest drummer Liviu Pop, continuing the march of national and internatio­nal artists to eastern Connecticu­t.

Katz recently collaborat­ed with blues guitarist Joe Louis Walker and British blues harpist Giles Robson on the CD, “Journeys to the Heart of the Blues,” which won the Blues Foundation 2019 Blues Music Award for Best Acoustic Album. He has fronted his own band for decades and is a former member of the Greg Allman Band from 20072013 and of both of Bruce Truck’s bands (Freight Train and Les Brers), has accompanie­d artists from Big Mama Thornton to Maria Muldaur, appearing on over 70 albums.

Sunday, there’s a Marine Corp Birthday and Veterans’ Day Celebratio­n at the Brass Horse Café. The Rich Badowski Blues Band will supply some tunes.

The Mohegan Sun Wolf Den has the BB King Blues

Band on Saturday. Featured performers are Claudette King and Michael Lee. Jake Kulak joins friend Braiden Sunshine at the Atrium Lounge, and it looks like Jake Kulak and the LowDown may also head to the Note Kitchen & Bar on Saturday as well. (Confirm before traveling.)

The Blues Foundation has sent out informatio­n on the Internatio­nal Blues Challenge. Included is informatio­n about the growing schedule, unique IBC merchandis­e, and other IBC offers to include a special journey between the Folk Alliance Conference in New Orleans and Memphis in time for our Internatio­nal Blues Challenge kickoff on Jan. 28.
