Quinnipiac falls to Miami on the road

Kameron McGusty scored 22 points to lead Miami to an 8052 victory over Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon in Coral Gables, Fla.

Dejan Vasiljevic overcame a scoreless first half and finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Hurricanes (31). The senior guard shot 4of6 from the field and was perfect on two free throw attempts in the second half.

Chris Lykes scored 12 points and Harlond Beverly 10 for Miami.

The Hurricanes opened the second half with 10 unanswered points in the first 2:33 for a 3924 lead. Vasiljevic keyed the spurt with a 3pointer and layup.

Beverly’s corner 3pointer with 10:15 remaining gave the Hurricanes their first 20point lead at 5433.

Savion Lewis scored 16 points for the Bobcats (02).

Deng Gak and Anthony Walker scored two baskets each during an 80 run for the Hurricanes’ largest lead of the first half at 2315 with 6:38 remaining.

Lykes’ running jumper at the buzzer gave Miami a 2924 advantage at halftime.

Quinnipiac’s visit to Florida Saturday coincided with their second game alltime against an Athletic Coast Conference opponent. The other Florida stop also was against the Hurricanes in 1999, when they were members of the Big East Conference.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Colgate 70, Yale 67 (OT): At Hamilton, N.Y., Tori Andrew scored a gamehigh 20 points, but the Bulldogs fell in overtime for their first loss of the season.

Camilla Emsbo finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs (11), while Ellen Margaret Andrews added 12 points.

Rachel Thompson led Colgate (40) with 18 points, while Keelah Dixon hit a gametying 3pointer with 4 seconds remaining in regulation.

SCSU 64, District of Columbia 51: At Washington, Kiana Steinauer had a doubledoub­le with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Owls.

Imani Wheeler added 15 points for SCSU (40), while Jessica Fressle added 12 points.

Maya Thomas led District of Columbia (13) with 22 points.

Quinnipiac 76, Bucknell 69: Paige Warfel recorded her second doubledoub­le of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Bobcats.

Shaq Edwards reached double digits for the third consecutiv­e game, scoring 14 points for Quinnipiac (12).

Ellie Mack scored a gamehigh 33 points for Bucknell (22).

New Haven 55, Bridgeport 42: At West Haven, Micah Wormack finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Chargers, whom improved to 20 on the season.

Alyzae Davis led the Purple Knights (03) with 13 points.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

Colgate 4, Yale 0: At Hamilton, N.Y., Tera Hoffman finished with 18 saves in the Bulldogs ECAC hockey loss.

Yale fell to 530 (320 ECAC). Colgate improved to 852 (321 ECAC).

Union 4, Quinnipiac 2: At Schenectad­y, N.Y., Sarah CoutuGodbo­ut and Kenzie Hauswirth each scored goals in the Bobcats’ ECAC Hockey loss.

Quinnipiac fell to 562 (151 ECAC). Union improved to 291 (230 ECAC).
