Sunset views with an abundance of privacy
North Haven colonial offers amazing sunset views, borders hiking trails
Nestled in a cul-de-sac on a hill and facing wooded land, this colonial promises privacy and amazing views.
When he purchased the home six years ago, seller Manny Patel was impressed with the home’s privacy.
“We are accessible to going someplace, at the same time we are serene and tucked in,” he said.
He noted the “beautiful house has amazing sunset views” and said his son, a budding photographer, takes unbelievable pictures as the sun sinks below the horizon.
“One of the great things during quarantine is walking out and seeing the sunset,” he added.
Patel said he and his son enjoy hiking on the approximately 20-acres of land trust property next to the house in the quiet safe neighborhood.
A partying family, they host large gatherings, such as the 120 guests who celebrated Patel’s son’s ninth birthday. Though they played music over the outdoor sound system, the neighbors didn’t hear a peep.
“It’s just so tucked in,” Patel said. “We have a great tree line and when summer sets in, it’s so private.”
Inside parties are just as fun, including the Patel’s Thanksgiving dance parties with a DJ.
The spacious home has an open floor plan and Patel intentionally left a portion of the living room
unfurnished so his wife, Mamta – a classical Indian dancer – could give dance classes in the space, which can accommodate 15 to 20 people dancing freely.
One feature Patel particularly likes about the house is a surprising heated hallway entrance in the garage that was installed by the previous owner.
Shane Bradley, listing agent for William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty, called the hallway an unusual bonus that allows people to access the house from the garage via hardwood floors and sheet rocked walls rather than brushing past stuff stored in the garage.
“It’s a great addition,” Bradley said. “It’s the kind of thing I feel I’m compelled to bring people’s attention to.”
The hallway opens to the gourmet kitchen that, according to Patel, is the heart of the house with “all the high-end appliance you can imagine.”
“I’m a good chef, it has amazing big space that can fit 15 to 20 people,” he said.
Patel quite likes the hot boiling water that comes from the tap.
“I drink green tea first thing in the morning,” he said. “I don’t have to boil
the water; it’s right there.”
Patel can catch the sunset views from the master bedroom.
“I can meditate and I can see the sunset,” he said. “The views are amazing.”
The room also looks out over the backyard and heated in-ground swimming pool.
“If the kids are out swimming in the pool we can watch them from the bedroom,” Patel said.
The large 800-square foot room is also where his wife, who is also an artist, has a studio and paints with a view of Sleeping Giant in the amazing light flooding through all the windows.
The master bath has great views as well and a Jacuzzi tub and a standing shower.
Bradley said the master bedroom is “gigantic.”
“You can kind of play Frisbee in here,” he said when he first saw it.
Because of how the yard is set up, the pool is in sunlight throughout the day unlike the rest of the backyard, which is cast in shadow as soon as the clock strikes 3 p.m.
“Where the pool is, for some reason it always comes in sunlight,” Patel said. “Everything’s perfectly situated.”
Patel said he has “so many great memories” of living in the home.
“I’m going to miss the views,” he said.
