College students graduate, make honors

University of New England

The following students were named to the dean’s list for the 2020 spring semester at the University of New England. They have attained a grade-point average of 3.3 or better out of a possible 4.0 by the end of the semester.

They are: Cromwell, Mackenzie Dooley; Deep River, Allie Gilbert; East Haddam, Emily Rottino; Ivoryton, Ashley Sherman; Killingwor­th, Abigail Bagnoli and Hannah Korper; Middletown, Brooke DeFrance and Rachel Spigno; Portland, Jessica Olmeda.

Campbellsv­ille University

CAMPBELLSV­ILLE, Ky. — The academic honors president’s list for the spring 2020 semester at Campbellsv­ille University includes Elena Hughes from Deep River. The list features students who achieved a 4.0 grade-point average.

Bob Jones University

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Madelyn Lewis of Cromwell, a freshman interior architectu­re and design student at Bob Jones University, was named to the president’s list for high academic achievemen­t during the spring 2020 semester. To qualify, students must earn a 3.75 or higher grade-point average for the semester.

University of New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H. — The following students graduated from the University of New Hampshire May 16 during a virtual celebratio­n.

Those who received the honor of summa cum laude graduated with a grade-point average of 3.85 to 4.0; magna cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.65 to 3.84; and cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.50 to 3.64.

Britta McCarthy, bachelor of arts degree in political science, and Grant Magee of environmen­tal sciences, ecosystems, both of Chester; Clinton residents Corey Walsh, bachelor of science degree in biology, and Darcy LaFrance, bachelor of science degree in wildlife and conservati­on biology; Killingwor­th residents Madeleine Brandon, cum laude, bachelor of arts degree in psychology, and Emily Roth, magna cum laude, bachelor of science degree in biomedical science/ medicine and veterinary science.

Also, Meghan McAvoy of Old Saybrook, bachelor of science degree in business administra­tion, finance; Portland residents Karen Kelly, summa cum laude, bachelor of science degree in occupation­al therapy, Rachael DiMare, magna cum laude, bachelor of arts degree in psychology; and Emma Barresi, cum laude, bachelor of science in communicat­ion.

MCPHS University

BOSTON — Massachuse­tts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences announces the students named to the dean’s list for the fall 2019 semester:

Skyler Morris is a native of Middlefiel­d pursuing a bachelor of science in premedical and health studies (physician assistant studies). Morris will graduate in 2021.

Dennis Beaudry is a native of Middletown pursuing a bachelor of science in premedical and health studies (physical therapy). He graduated in 2020 from the Worcester, Mass., campus.

Echo De Jong is a native of Portland, pursuing a bachelor of science in dental hygiene. De Jong will graduate in 2021.

The list recognizes those students with a full-time course load who have achieved outstandin­g scholarshi­p with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for the academic term.

University of Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Kelsey True of Old Saybrook helped raise a total of $140,800 for the University of Vermont Children’s Hospital through participat­ion in Rallython, UVM’s annual year-long student-led fundraiser and 12-hour dance marathon in support of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

By the conclusion of this year’s fundraisin­g, True raised enough money to reach the dancer goal, a distinctio­n given to participan­ts who have fundraised between $100 and $249 over the course of the year. Joy Vincenzo of Portland also raised enough money to reach the dancer goal.

The event is a studentled yearlong fundraiser which culminates in a 12-hour dance marathon, signifying the average length of a nurse’s shift at Vermont’s local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

Colby-Sawyer College

NEW LONDON, N.H. — Colby-Sawyer College recognized 283 students for outstandin­g academic achievemen­t during the 2020 spring semester. To qualify, each must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours in graded courses.

They are: Samantha Mohammed of Killingwor­th, class of 2022, majoring in biology; Bridget Turecek of Middlefiel­d, class of 2021, majoring in biology; Danyel Godwin of East Hampton, class of 2022, majoring in crime and legal studies; and Amy Stockburge­r of East Hampton, class of 2021, majoring in environmen­tal science.

Lasell University

NEWTON, Mass. — Lasell University Athletics honored its 61 senior student-athletes for their success and accomplish­ments this year in a virtual senior awards banquet on the school’s athletic website and social media accounts. They included Kelly Cappitella of East Haddam, a player on the women’s volleyball team, who achieved at least a 3.0 grade-point average during the 2019 fall semester.

Nazareth College

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Norah McKnight of Westbrook graduated from Nazareth College with a bachelor of arts in music and a minor in entertainm­ent and recording industry May 9.

Becker College

Becker College announces the graduation of more than 430 students at a virtual commenceme­nt celebratio­n, including the following local residents:

Sofia Cullina of Deep River graduated with a bachelor of science in nursing.

Alyson Zawisza, of Moodus, graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in veterinary science, pre-veterinary concentrat­ion. She also graduated with high honors with an associate of science in veterinary science, veterinary technology concentrat­ion.
