Unite against systemic racism

-

George Floyd’s murder ignites outrage over the abuse of power by some law enforcement against my African-American siblings. We’re finally realizing the real issue is rooted in unchecked racial injustice and systemic discrimination.

As an Ahmadi Muslim, I condemn racism, hatred, and injustice in all its ugly faces. I follow and advocate the teachings of “love for all, hatred for none.” True Islam’s compassion and sympathy for all humans is as for one family. It breaks down fabricated boundaries that societies erect in division and enmity, and offers unity and peace.

Fifteen centuries ago, the Qur’an revealed “And among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the diversity of your tongues and colors. In that surely are signs for those who possess knowledge,” 30:23.

In his farewell sermon from 632 AD, Prophet Muhammad said, “Allah has made you brethren one to another, so be not divided. An Arab has no preference over a non-Arab, nor a non-Arab over an Arab; nor is a white superior to a black, nor a black superior to a white, except in righteousness.”

I encourage inward reflection on the moral compass we choose to live by in our homes and communities, because it does affect us all. Let’s also repel evil with goodness and not let anyone’s injustice incite us towards revenge.
