Board the Onrust for a river cruise
Are-creation of the vessel Adriaen Block built in 1614, Onrust is available for public cruises Thursday through Monday from the Connecticut River Museum in Essex. Public sails began June 20. The vessel is available for birthday parties, corporate meetings, and other private charters through mid-October.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and beverages, including alcoholic beverages in moderation. Routine cleaning measures and safe social distancing will be in place for guests boarding the vessel.
“We are delighted to have the Onrust on our docks again this year. It is our small way of sharing the Connecticut River with everyone,” said Thomas Wilcox, Interim Executive Director, in a statement.
Captain Block became the first known European to travel up the Connecticut River. He was immortalized as namesake of the small island in Long Island Sound that is popular with modern visitors to these waters. The Onrust is a floating exhibit at the museum through early October.
The Onrust is open for dockside tours, school, and Scout programs, along with public cruises and charters. For more information on the Connecticut River Museum
and the Onrust, please visit the Museum’s website.
The Connecticut River Museum is located on the Essex waterfront at 67 Main Street in Essex and is open daily from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
The museum, located in the historic Steamboat Dock building, offers exhibits and programs about the history and environment of the Connecticut River. For a full listing of Museum programs or to buy tickets for the Onrust, go to www.ctrivermuseum.org or call 860-767-8269.
