PRODUCTS FOR THE PANTRY: A Proteins and Products for the Pantry Pack the Pickup event will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon in the lower parking lot of St. Pius Church. The halfday event is organized by the Altrusa, Civitan and Soroptimist service organizations working together for the local community. This is a drive-through event, with all involved practicing social distancing and wearing masks. Volunteers will accept donations and cash is always appreciated. Nonperishable protein sources and personal products, including baby food, beans, canned fish and meat, cereal, soups, macaroni and cheese, disposible gloves, razors, wipes, PPE, toothbrushes and diapers will be collected. RIVER CONCERTS: Goodspeed by the River concerts will be held on the Goodspeed lawn overlooking the scenic Connecticut River, with songs, stories and plenty of live music. CHILD CARE SESSION: The Children’s Tree Montessori School is offering a six-week child care session for children ages 5-9, opposite its hybrid school schedule from Aug. 31 to Oct. 9. Parents can choose either the Monday and Tuesday or the Thursday and Friday cohort. Care is provided from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for $180 per week. Space is very limited. CHURCH SERVICES: First Congregational Church of Cromwell has resumed in-person services. Summer worship begins at 9:30 a.m. Masks must be worn and social distancing will be practiced. Temperatures are taken prior to entering the sanctuary; those with a temperature less than 100.4 are admitted. Parking lot is just north of the church and handicapped accessible. SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICES: Outdoor Sunday services, 9 a.m., Third Congregational Church, 91 Miner St., Middletown. Services are held under a tent; parishioners bring their own chairs or sit on the grass near the church’s memorial garden.

Chester Rotary cannot have its usual lobster festival this year, but you can still have lobster and support the community. On Saturday Sept. 12 Chester Rotary will have a takeout lobster dinner fundraiser. Dinners are $40, with two lobsters, corn-on-the-cob, baked potato, coleslaw, a roll and melted butter, packaged to stay hot and leak protected, and delivered safely to your car.
