Legacy’s ‘A Day at the Theatre’ goes virtual
Branford’s Legacy Theatre’s annual gala, A Day at the Theatre, set for 7 p.m. Nov. 14, is a live online event, allowing guests to attend from the comfort of home.
ADay at the Theatre is co-hosted by Keely Baisden Knudsen, co-founder and artistic director, and Stephanie Stiefel Williams, co-founder and president of the Board of Trustees, will be the first to hear the line-up for Legacy’s inaugural Mainstage season.
The event will have performances by Broadway artists, including Tony Award Winner Debbie Gravitte, Arbender J. Robinson, Branford’s own Eric Santagata, Coco
Smith and Vishal Vaidya, and will also feature appearances by Legacy’s staff, board members, James Roday Rodriguez, star of USA Network’s “Psych”, and two time Tony Award Winner Sutton Foster, from “Younger” and “Bunheads.”
Tickets, starting at $35, for A Day at the Theatre are on sale now at https://LegacyTheatre.givesmart .com
While purchasing tickets, guests are invited to visit the unique art auction featuring local artists and experiences available for bidding. Items include a Frank H. Taylor watercolor, “Cottage, Thimble Islands” which dates back to 1878.
During the broadcast, viewers will be reminded (or learn) about the incredible history of Legacy’s building. Orson Welles debuted his production of Too Much Johnson inside of the building in 1938. His daughter, Beatrice Welles, agreed to be featured in the gala, and ticket holders will hear that exclusive interview.
Legacy’s groundbreaking ceremony was held in 2019, and construction is progressing rapidly with the building 80 percent finished, on target to be completed in January, according to members. Guests will be able to see the renovation. Gala patrons will also hear what’s gone into maintaining a safe space for all, while abiding by the variety of social distancing rules. The opening night for Legacy Theatre is slated for April 16, with a Broadway star that will be announced during the gala.
