Report: Retired CT state police officer killed in Las Vegas fight

A former Connecticut State Police officer was killed in Las Vegas over the weekend after he was punched once during an altercation that began on the strip, multiple outlets reported.

Thomas Driscoll, 57, fell to the ground during the alleged assault and suffered a fatal wound to the back of his skull, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported based on a copy of the police report.

Authorities said Driscoll, a Chicopee, Mass., resident, was walking with a woman on a pedestrian bridge between The Cromwell and Bally’s casinos Sunday when a man made a comment at them.

The man, later identified by police as Brandon Leath, 33, followed the pair and waited for them at the bottom of an escalator, the outlet reported. Leath then took a “fighting stance” and threw a punch at

Driscoll, knocking him over backward.

Leath was later found by authorities based on surveillance camera footage of the incident.

Driscoll was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Fox 61 television reported.

A spokesman for the Connecticut State Police said Driscoll retired from the agency in 2009 after 22 years. He served most of his career in patrol at Troop H in Hartford and Troop B in North Canaan, and was also stationed at Bradley International Airport, state police said

“It saddens us to hear that he died after being assaulted. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends,” the agency said in a statement.

Annie Chong, Driscoll’s friend and exgirlfriend, told the Review Journal Driscoll was planning to hike the Pacific Crest Trail at the time of his death.
