Palm named new vice chairwoman of Environment Committee
CHESTER — State Rep. Christine Palm, D-Chester, has been appointed the new vice chairwoman of the state House’s Environment Committee, a panel she’s currently serving on.
This change comes as part of a series of committee reassignments following the election of state Rep. Patricia Billie Miller, D-Stamford, to the state Senate, according to a press release.
“Rep. Palm is one of the most dedicated environmental advocates in the legislature, as evidenced by the numerous environmental bills she has already either introduced or co-sponsored this session,” House Speaker Matthew Ritter said in a prepared statement. “I believe her leadership on this issue makes her the perfect choice to serve as vice chair of this committee.”
“My district is made up of towns that border the Connecticut River, so my constituents and I are very cognizant of the challenges our state and world face from a changing climate,” Palm said in the statement. “We must commit to policies that help cut our carbon footprint, reduce the use of harmful chemicals, find equitable and efficient ways to handle solid waste management, promote environmental justice, awareness and education, and protect our state’s precious ecosystem for future generations.”
Palm, first elected to represent the 36th District in the House of Representatives in 2018, also serves as the Democratic Leader of the Internship Committee, and is a member of both the Judiciary Committee and the Government Administration and Elections Committee.
