Peter Asher and Company in concert
OLD SAYBROOK — The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center presents Peter Asher and Company for two performances at 8 p.m. July 23, and 2 p.m. July 24.
Asher returns to the road this summer with a fine ensemble well stocked with many of his musical cohorts starring Albert Lee, Kate Taylor and Leland Sklar.
Asher was one half of the British Invasion duo Peter & Gordon, and was twice named the Grammy Winner as Producer of the Year for his work with Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor. Today the former A&R Director for the Beatles’ Apple Records may be equally well known as the host of “From Me to You” on SiriusXM’s The Beatles Channel. He’ll perform hits from his history including gems such as “Lady Godiva”, “I Go to Pieces” and “A World Without Love” from the Peter & Gordon era.
Asher’s stage event also stars Kate Taylor, whose debut album, “Sister Kate” was produced by Mr. Asher and released 50 years ago. This gathering of talent helps Kate celebrate that anniversary, as well as the impending release of a new Kate Taylor album, “Why Wait”, which Peter produced, and on which he, Leland and Albert all played.
The British guitar legend Albert Lee (Everly Brothers, Eric Clapton Band) also stars, and he’ll no doubt “Tear It Up” with his own brand of roots-laced guitar magic. Iconic bassist Leland Sklar (James Taylor Band, Phil Collins) joins in a starring role, as well.
Acoustic guitarist and vocalist Bill Cinque (Neil Diamond Band), vocalist Cara Lee (Bill Medley), drummer Steve Holley (Paul McCartney and Wings), and Jeff Alan Ross (ex-Badfinger) will step into featured roles as well, on keys-guitars-vocals.
