Joseph Michael Roget, Jr. (“Joey,” “JoeRock”) – husband, son, brother, uncle and friend – passed away July 17, 2021 after a long and courageous struggle with sickness. Joey was born on April 15, 1960 to the late Joseph Roget, Sr. and Francies Lee Roget in New York City.

Around the age of 8, Joey relocated to Middletown, Connecticu­t, with his mother, sister Arcena, and brother Wayne. Joey attended Middletown High School and was extremely active in a variety of sports and activities, including basketball, soccer and deejaying. Outside of school, he was also involved in and practiced martial arts (karate and judo) in which he excelled and won various tournament­s. Joey was also very proud of being a member of the 3-time state championsh­ip-winning 197576 Middletown High varsity basketball team.

A 1978 graduate of Middletown High, Joey went on to hold various positions in constructi­on, carpentry, food service, and lastly as a chef/caterer in New York and New Jersey. After 14 years in Teaneck, New Jersey, Joey moved back to Middletown with his family. With his outgoing personalit­y, Joey could talk to anyone at anytime, whether just meeting them or knowing them for 20 years. Cooking food and creating new dishes was his greatest interest and pastime. He will be missed by the many lives he touched through his cooking.

Along with his parents, Joey is predecease­d by his niece Tamisha Thigpen and nephew Anthony Roget. He leaves to mourn: Crystal, his wife of 22 years; daughters Raquel Roget and Rochelle Roget of Middletown, CT; his sister Arcena RogetPrivo­tt

and brother-in-law Rodney Privott of Middletown, CT; his brother Wayne Roget, Sr. of Middletown, CT; brother-in-law George Pugh of Hackensack, NJ; stepmother Jana Roget of Dallas, GA; stepbrothe­r Marlow Garvin of South Carolina; nephews Chaz, Wayne, Jr., Daniel, Raymond, George Jr.; nieces Chayanne, Ashley, Mariyah and Tia; aunts Delores Birkett and husband Ralphe of Las Vegas, NV, Barbara Roget of Bronx, NY, Jeanie Roget of Las Vegas, NV, Gwendolyn Grissett of New York; uncle Augustus Grissett and wife Beverly of Syracuse, NY, and uncle Roderick Jackson of Tampa, FL, as well as a host cousins, relatives, and friends, and a special cousin he thought of like a mother, Elizabeth Davis.

A celebratio­n of his life will be held Monday, July 26, 2021 at 11AM at Zion First Baptist Church 16 James A Moses Ave, Middletown, CT 06457. Calling hours 10AM until the time of service.
