The right choice for Cromwell mayor

I am writing to express my support for Allan Spotts to be our next mayor of Cromwell. Others have and will continue to cite Allan’s comprehensive record of outstanding public service in numerous official capacities, so I will not repeat his record here. Rather, I will describe my impressions of Allan Spotts the person.

Allan is one of the rare individuals whose genuine enthusiasm and excitement are contagious. It’s hard not to get truly excited about a town project or event when Allan is describing what will happen and what we need to do to make it happen. He is a catalyst, a true leader, the synergistic element we need in Cromwell. Not only does Allan contribute, but he also motivates others to contribute in a way in which they derive great satisfaction and pride from their involvement.

When I decided to become active in local affairs, Allan personally encouraged my involvement — even though I was not a member of his political party at the time — and has always been there when I had a question or a concern. Best of all, through my subsequent involvement with the town, we have become good friends and often enjoy lunch together with no agenda other than to catch up and enjoy one another’s company.

Yes, Allan has served superbly in his many titled roles in town. But he is also no stranger to the less glamorous “roll up your sleeves, pitch in, and get it done,” serve-where-you’re-needed positions. I frequently saw Allan selflessly volunteering in school events (along with his wife Karen Spotts) as our sons Geoff and Tim, classmates, climbed the grades toward graduation. “Keeping the soda bin filled and cold” for example isn’t something that goes on your public service resume, but if that’s where he was needed, that’s where you’d find Allan.

Ask anyone — Allan’s expertise, enthusiasm, and energy, and his ability to inspire the same in others, are precisely what we need to continue the growth of good things here in Cromwell.
