Buttonwood selects winners of ‘Finding The Light’ contest

Event held in memory of local saxophonis­t, photograph­er

MIDDLETOWN — The Buttonwood Tree announces the winners of its “Finding The Light” photo contest, held in memory of saxophonis­t and photograph­er Ed Friedman.

Friedman, who died in 2019 and formerly performed at the venue, inspired many throughout his time taking photos of the North End and sharing them at The Buttonwood Tree, according to a press release.

Adult Thing category: first place: Brian Gray, “Compositio­n #2,” second place, Don Logie, “Serenity,” third place, Rachael Keating, “Sun Worshipper­s,” honorable mention, Philip LeMontagne, “Lily”

Adult Middletown: first place: Bill Revill, “We Forgive But We Don’t Forget,” second place, Jane Shipman, “Arrigoni Fog,” third place, Marilyn Mills, “Middletown Being Playful,” honorable mention, Cheryl Miller McCarthy, “After the Storm.”

Adult Person: first place: Dean Bolt, “Teyo’s World,” second place, Patty DiFazio, “The Face of Isolation,” third place, Marilyn Mills, “Beautiful Man,” honorable mention, Patty DiFazio, “Me and My Dad”

Youth Place: first place, Yanira Lane, “Soft Gray Glow,” second place, Jacob Robillard, “Inside Atmosphere”

Judges were Matt Kabel, Bill Dekine, Barbara McCane and Paul Horton. Minuteman Press and Jubilee Fine Art/Katz Custom Framing provided their services.

Proceeds from the event will help support youth programmin­g at The Buttonwood Tree.
