What you need to know: LAE (Life after Edsall) begins for UConn. Randy Edsall abruptly departed on Monday, barely 24 hours after announcing he would coach the program through the end of the season before retiring. Defensive coordinator Lou Spanos, now replacing Edsall on an interim basis, must find a way to reinvigorate the team amid all the chaos. That won’t be easy. If last week was any indication, the Huskies are nowhere ready to win. They were embarrassed by FCS program Holy Cross, 38-28, and find their season hanging by a thread with a much more potent opponent in Purdue coming in. The Huskies switched quarterbacks hoping for a spark, turning to redshirt sophomore Steven Krajewski. The Boilermakers — picked to finish sixth in the Big Ten West — opened as 32.5-point favorites and are coming off a 30-21 victory over Oregon State.
