’66 Impala centerpiece of Oct. 3 car show
MIDDLETOWN — This year’s featured car at the Middlesex County Historical Society 35th annual antique car show and fall harvest market will be a 1966 Chevrolet Impala SuperSport.
The show will take place at Palmer Field adjacent to Washington Street, Route 66, Oct. 3.
This Impala sports its original 327/275 horsepower engine, Chateau Slate color and rare factorybuilt air conditioning, and has only 56,000 miles on the odometer, according to a press release. It was restored over a period of four years by its second owner in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
It has Strato bucket seats and power steering, and has won over 30 trophies at various shows throughout the years, according to the historical society.
“Of all the classic cars that I have owned, this one is by far my daughter’s favorite, therefore it is not for sale!” the third and current owner, Jim Caruso, said in a prepared statement.
A new addition to the show is a fall harvest market featuring vendors such as antique dealers, vintage purveyors, crafts peopleand food trucks. Market organizer is Maria Holzberg. The market will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with setup beginning at 7:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required for vendors.
Car registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and judging starts at 11:30 a.m. with trophies awarded to the top vehicles at 2 p.m.
General admission is $3 and children 12 and under are free. Car registration is $10. Although cars registered for judging must be dated 1996 or older, there is no cutoff date for cars being placed in the car corral.
