STAMFORD — Gov. Ned Lamont and state economic development commissioner David Lehman will give the keynote speeches Sept. 30 at the Stamford Chamber of Commerce’s 34th annual meeting and awards ceremony at the downtown Residence Inn by Marriott.

“This year’s 34th annual meeting and awards ceremony symbolizes the strength, innovation and resiliency of all the business community as we persevere through the past 18 months of a pandemic,” said Heather Cavanagh, the Chamber’s CEO and president. “The return to a sense of normalcy was felt throughout the past few months, and with the surge of delta variant, we must now continue to navigate through this crisis.”

Lamont also gave the keynote address at the 2020 ceremony. His speech last year focused on the state’s response during the first few months of the pandemic.

Like the 2020 ceremony, which was also held at the Residence Inn, there will be limited in-person attendance. Lehman and Stamford Mayor David Martin, who will give welcoming remarks, are expected to speak in person. Lamont is scheduled to speak remotely.

Precautions for attendees at the Residence Inn will include masking and temperature checks.

Registrants not attending in person will be able to watch the proceedings through a livestream.

At the gathering, the chamber will also recognize this year’s award recipients. Grade A ShopRite has been named the company of the year. Laura Jordan, director of government affairs and community relations at Stamford Health, has been named member of the year. The chamber will also present a community excellence award to Bridgeport-headquartered People’s United Bank, which is again sponsoring the event.

“We will acknowledge those members who have demonstrated dedication and commitment, not only to the chamber but also to the business community and the city of Stamford, throughout the pandemic and now the recovery process,” Cavanagh said.
