GOODSPEED TO PRESENT RODGERS & HAMMERSTEI­N REVUE

Show opens Sept. 24

EAST HADDAM — “A Grand Night for Singing: A Celebratio­n of Rodgers & Hammerstei­n” will mark the return of live musicals to the Goodspeed Musicals stage.

To celebrate the occasion, Goodspeed will hold its 20th annual gala on the first night. The new production will run Sept. 24 through Nov. 28 at the opera house at 6 Main St.

The event will feature more than 30 songs from Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstei­n II musicals, such as “Oklahoma!”, “South Pacific,” “The Sound of Music,” “Carousel,” “The King and I,” “Cinderella” and more, according to a press release.

The cast will feature Jasmine Forsberg (off-Broadway: “Broadway Bounty Hunter”), Mauricio Martínez (Broadway: “On Your Feet!”), Jesse Nager (Broadway: “Motown The Musical,” “Mamma Mia,” “Mary Poppins”), Mamie Parris (Broadway: “Cats,” “School of Rock,” “Ragtime,” “The Drowsy Chaperone”; and Goodspeed: “The Most Happy Fella”), and Diane Phelan (Broadway:

“School of Rock,” “The King and I”).

Standbys are Kathryn Boswell (Broadway: “Anastasia,” “Gigi”) and Kevin Schuering (national tour: “The King and I”).

It is directed by Rob Ruggiero with choreograp­hy by Broadway’s Lainie Sakakura. The show was conceived by Walter Bobbie (the Broadway director of “Chicago” and “Footloose”). Music direction will be by resident music director Adam Souza.

Curtain times are Wednesday at 2 and 7:30 p.m., Thursday at 7:30 p.m. (with select performanc­es at 2 p.m.),

Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. (with select performanc­es at 6:30 p.m.).

Tickets, which start at $29, are available online at goodspeed.org or by calling the box office at 860-8738668.

A list of safety policies has been establishe­d for indoor performanc­es at the theater that will remain in effect until at least the end of 2021, a Goodspeed announceme­nt said. The policies and changes to them will be posted at goodspeed.org and included in emails sent to ticket holders.
