McBride’s career spanned 32 years

GUILFORD — Visitors to the Henry Whitfield State Museum on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. are invited to reminisce, chat, and engage in storytelling with recently retired museum curator Mike McBride.

He’ll be back for this limited time at the museum, 248 Old Whitfield St., for this event being held in honor of his long service, according to an announcement.

McBride has collected lots of stories during his 32-year career at what the museum calls Connecticut’s oldest house.

His tenure was the longest of any staff member since the museum’s founding in 1900. McBride guided the site through dozens of exhibits, hundreds of events, thousands of visitors, major renovation projects, and even hurricanes and floods, according to the museum.

“And he did it all with his high standards of museum professionalism and his witty sense of humor,” the announcement said.

The Whitfield House will be open that day with regular admission. It is free for children 12 and younger, $5 for seniors and $6 for others. For information, call 203-453-2457, email whitfieldmuseum@ct.gov, or visit portal.ct.gov.
