John Doyle
July 20, 2021
John T. (Jack) Doyle, Jr. of East Haven, a long-time resident of Hamden passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 20, 2021. Jack was the devoted husband of the late Frances Doyle for fiftyseven years. Born in Branford on February 16, 1928, Jack is survived by his four children, Jack Doyle (Lin) of Beverly, Mass, David Doyle of Hamden, CT., Dr. Michael Doyle (Wendy) of Westport, CT. and Betsy Doyle of Geneva, NY. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and spent his professional career as a public school administrator in the New Haven school system. He enjoyed golf and was a member for many years of the New Haven Country Club. He had a bottomless supply of stories about growing up and working in New Haven, and about his children and grandchildren, and many of these stories were true. He lived a full and happy life, from his youth in Fair Haven when he swam in the crossHarbor races, to appearing on the Jumbotron at Yankee Stadium when he went to a recent Old Timer’s Day game. The family will hold a celebration of Jack’s life on a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, Jack would like everyone to get up on a ladder and clean their gutters.
A graveside service will be held at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 12:00 noon. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 424 Elm St. New Haven.
