Choosing Florida leadership over Conn.
Jeffery Sonnenfeld from the Yale School of Management wrote an op-ed regarding the leadership of Ned Lamont vs. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis when it comes to their response to COVID-19.
One very important statistic that Sonnenfeld neglected to tell us about is the COVID death rate per million people.
By this important statistic, Connecticut is doing worse than Florida at 2,354 deaths per million compared to Florida’s 2,231 deaths per million. Connecticut’s death rate per million is higher than the national average. Sonnenfeld states that Connecticut ranks 35th in the number of COVID deaths. That’s only because Connecticut has a much smaller population than Florida. In my opinion, Sonnenfeld’s statistic is disingenuous.
Connecticut’s unemployment rate is one of the highest in the nation while Florida is at nearly full employment. Connecticut is last in the nation in economic growth while Florida is among the leaders in economic growth.
DeSantis is not saying that you can’t wear a mask if you want to. He is saying it is your choice if you wear a mask or not. DeSantis is protecting the freedom of the people in his state. I am fully vaccinated and encourage others to do so as well. Sonnenfeld and Lamont would probably be happy if both the vaccinated and unvaccinated would be forced to wear their “smug” masks and be mandated to do what the government tells them to do all of time.
Connecticut suffers under Lamont’s reign while the state of Florida is thriving. Connecticut needs to elect more people like Ron DeSantis and a lot less like Ned Lamont. Otherwise life will continue to get worse here in Connecticut.
There is no comparison to the leadership abilities of Ned Lamont and Ron DeSantis. DeSantis wins hands down.
