Despite Ethan Coady’s 4 TDs Hamden Hall rally falls short against St. Paul

A late rally by the Hamden Hall football team fell short as Michael Gutwein ran for three touchdowns and added a touchdown pass to lead St. Paul to a 38-35 prep school win in Concord, New Hampshire on Saturday.

Trailing 38-21 in the fourth quarter, Hamden Hall quarterbac­k Ethan Coady scored on touchdown runs of 5 and 2 yards to close out the game.

Coady ran for 129 yards and three touchdowns overall and completed 14-of-24 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown. Amari Phillips led the Hornets defense with nine tackles and a sack.

Konye Taylor added 69 yards and a touchdown on five carries for the Hornets (1-1).

It was the season-opening game for St. Paul.

Wallkill Valley 19, Hopkins 18: Dylan Bonser threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns to lead Wallkill Valley to its win. Pearson Hill ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns for the Hilltopper­s.

BOYS SOCCER

Law 3, West Haven 1: Marcus Dostal scored twice to lead the Eagles to their SCC win. Jaden Wywoda had 11 saves for Law. Lorenzo Vincent scored for the Blue Devils.

GIRLS SOCCER

East Haven 2, West Haven 0: Emily Pycela scored twice to lead the Easties to their SCC win. Sera Lendroth had 11 saves for East Haven. Kassidy Carrano had eight saves for the Blue Devils.
