HISTORIC HOUSES OPEN TO VISITORS ON WEEKEND

- STAFF REPORTS

EAST HADDAM — The upcoming weekend features open houses for two local landmarks: the Palmer-Warner House on Saturday, and Amasa Day House on Sunday.

These free events, which will each run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., are part of the East Haddam fall celebration.

Visitors can walk through the first floor of the Palmer-Warner House, built in 1738, to learn about the work Connecticut Landmarks is doing to open the property, an announcement said. Guests are invited to explore the historic grounds at 307 Town St., take in the view from the back porch, visit the recently restored barn, and speak with evaluators to help the organization shape the property’s future, according to a press release.

At the Amasa Day House, at 33 Plains Rood in Moodus (an East Haddam village), visitors can explore the first floor, which is furnished largely with objects owned by members of the Day family, the announcement said. These include toys and locally produced ceramics and silver, as well as the original 19th-century floor and stair stenciling.

At 1 p.m., Kandie Carle,

of the East Haddam Stage Co., and Marc Casslar, of the Vintage Dance Society of CT, will perform on the grounds. They will be highlighting circa 1860 social dances, including the waltz, polka and Schottische.

Both events will be held rain or shine. Registration for timed entry is recommended. Same-day, on-site registration will be allowed only if the event has not reached capacity. To register for the Saturday event, go to ctl -palmer-warner-ehfc .eventbrite.com and the Sunday event, ctl-amasa -day-ehfc.eventbrite.com.

Visitors are required to wear masks within the interiors, and masks are encouraged for outdoor programs where distancing is difficult.
