Crews put out blaze at house
HADDAM — Members of the Haddam Volunteer Fire Co. helped extinguish a structure fire Wednesday morning on Saybrook Road in the Higganum section of town.
Firefighters were assisted in their efforts by multiple mutual aid companies, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.
Middletown’s South Fire District was first to arrive on scene, and reported smoke coming from the eaves of a 2.5-story wood-frame home, as well as fire from the structure’s back-left exterior, Haddam fire officials said.
Firefighters “stretched a line to the second floor and opened up the walls to expose hidden fire. The fire was quickly contained and damaged was confined to the area of origin,” South Fire wrote on its social media page.
Crews checked to make sure it had not spread into the interior walls of the home.
Aid was provided by Haddam, Durham, Haddam Neck, Killingworth, Chester and East Haddam fire departments, which also supplied additional engines, tankers, and a rapid intervention team, the post said.
The cause of the incident is under investigation by the Haddam fire marshal.
