Expensive repairs force fair cancellation

PORTLAND — The Portland Fair, scheduled to begin Friday, has been cancelled this year due to last-minute circumstances that could jeopardize participants’ health and safety, officials said.

A statement on the fair’s website says current conditions at the Portland Exchange Club grounds require infrastructure repairs at a significant cost.

These are labor-intensive and timeconsuming, the statement read.

The conditions, paired with pandemic uncertainties, and new adjoining property access restrictions, led to the decision, organizers said.

The post said they are exploring options to prevent such measures in the future.

“Thank you for your support and understanding during these unprecedented times. The health and safety of the Portland Fair Association team, our dedicated volunteers, guests, emergency services teams, exhibitors and vendors continue to be our primary consideration. We look forward to seeing you next year,” the statement read.

All vendors, advertisers and fair association members who wish to request a refund can email info@portlandfair.com.
