Donald P. Wilcox, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 4, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Maureen Wilcox for 61 years.

Don was born on January 16, 1936 in Middletown, CT, the son of the late Louise G. Wilcox and Henry A. Wilcox.

Raised in Westbrook, CT, Don and his brother Dick owned and operated Wilcox Fuel Company for over 30 years. Don was very active in the community of Westbrook as a longtime local business owner and a member of the First Congregati­onal Church of Westbrook, Westbrook Volunteer Fire Department, Westbrook Library Building Committee, and the Elks Club. He also served in the National Guard Reserves.

Don’s favorite times were those spent on, in or near Long Island Sound with family and friends. Over the years he could often be found in the captain’s seat of the “Lucky Me” crossing the sound or simply enjoying the magnificen­t and familiar shoreline views from his favorite chair. Goose and duck hunting were other activities he enjoyed both locally and in Delaware.

Don leaves his two loving daughters, Deborah Horvatinov­ic (Matthew Horvatinov­ic) of York, PA, and Laureen Wilcox (Richard Winslow II) of Chester. He will be dearly missed by his grandchild­ren, Alex Horvatinov­ic (Erika Kydd), Natalie Santiago (Mario Santiago), and Jennifer Horvatinov­ic. He also leaves behind his great granddaugh­ter, Elena Page Santiago. His family and friends will always remember Don’s unassuming demeanor and countless acts of kindness and generosity that touched so many throughout his life.

A Celebratio­n of Don’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 2:00pm at The First Congregati­onal Church of Westbrook, 1166 Boston Post Road, Westbrook, CT 06498. Masks will be required for those in attendance. Interment will be privately held by the family in the Cypress Cemetery in Westbrook.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributi­ons in Don’s name may be made to the First Congregati­onal Church of Westbrook or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
