MIDDLETOWN — A New Britain man faces drug offenses after he was found with thousands of dollars worth of cocaine during a motor vehicle stop this week, police said.

Officers initiated a motor vehicle stop on Bretton Road in the area of Jacobs Terrace after witnessing an alleged motor vehicle violation and identified the driver as 32-year-old Dwight Brown, of New Britain. During the stop, police said officers developed probable cause to search Brown and his vehicle.

During the searches, police said they found nearly 84 grams of cocaine, multiple cellphones and a large amount of cash. The street value of the seized cocaine was estimated by police to be worth about $8,400.

Brown was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell a controlled substance and possession with intent to sell over half an ounce of cocaine by a non-drug dependent person.

His bond was set at $50,000.
