PARISI, Gerald J. (“Jerry”), 86, of Portland, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 17, 2021.

Jerry was born on September 9, 1935 to Jeremiah and Grace (Fortin) Parisi in Middletown. After graduating from Middletown High School he received his teaching degree from Central Connecticu­t State University (formerly “The Teachers College”). Jerry had a fulfilling 35 year teaching career where he taught in both the Middletown and Haddam school districts. He was beloved by his students and colleagues.

After retiring, Jerry enjoyed travelling with his wife, gardening, reading, doing crosswords, and spending time with his family.

Jerry was predecease­d by his wife Sandra and his brother Paul. He is survived by his children Jeremy (partner Anne), Rosemary (Claude), and Laura (Manuel). In addition, he leaves behind 6 grandchild­ren (Sean, Stephen, Alex, Erika, Brandon, and Emma), close cousins, lifelong friends, sister-in-law, niece and nephew.

Jerry will be remembered by everyone for his wisdom, humor, and humble personalit­y.

The family thanks Portland Care and Rehab for their compassion­ate care of Jerry. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in Jerry’s name.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 25th at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Portland. Burial will be private in the family plot in the Swedish Cemetery, Portland. There are no calling hours. The Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St, Portland, is in charge of arrangemen­ts.
