Library displays tiny Halloween village, offers family activities
EAST HADDAM — An after-dark celebration with free activities for families Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Rathbun Free Memorial Library will feature a miniature Halloween village.
The Friends of Rathbun Library will serve refreshments at the 36 Main St. facility, and tell (“not-soscary”) ghost stories around a campfire, according to a press release.
Called the Halloween Harvest Half Pint Village, the display, installed earlier this week, will be on view during library hours through the end of the month. The Friends invited people to create miniplanters with a seasonal theme, and created their first ever miniature Halloween village in the Reading Garden behind the library.
It features “plenty of tiny spooks and spirits tucked in amongst the straw, squash and spider webs,” according to the news release.
The village will be lit up for the evening so visitors, who are invited to come in costumes, can explore the mini-gardens as they look for clues from a scavenger hunt.
Casey Carle and his Bubblemania performance begins at 5:45 p.m. At 6:30, the garden will glow as Fire-N-Flow perform “feats of flaming artistry,” the library said.
All attendees will be entered in a free drawing to win a painting by local artist Beth Stewart and goodie bags will be given to those that find all the clues in the scavenger hunt.
Library hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturda, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
