Eleanor McKeon Hawley, age 95, of West Haven, passed away at Yale New Haven Hospital St. Raphael’s Campus on January 24, 2022. Eleanor was born in New Haven, CT, the oldest of four children on February 27, 1926 to the late Owen and Eleanor (Healey) McKeon. She and her late husband George moved to West Haven when they married in 1946. After her husband’s death in 1979, she worked in the cafeteria at West Haven High School until her retirement in 1991. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and could always be counted on to offer comforting words of love, support and encouragement. Nothing brought her more happiness than being in the company of her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. They always made a big fuss over “Ma” which resulted in her feeling so special. Eleanor was an avid antique collector and also made several beautiful, braided rugs from scratch for her home and as gifts to relatives and friends. No one enjoyed cleaning more than Eleanor and she took great pride in always maintaining an impeccable house. Before the pandemic hit, Eleanor was most appreciative of the weekly visits by her brother Owen and his wife Pat whom she considered to be more a sister than a sister-in-law. The family would like to thank all the good people from Apple Rehab West Haven for their kindness and care. So many of them became friends to Eleanor over the years.

A very special thank you to her fellow Apple Rehab resident and “next door neighbor”, Bertha Hurlburt, who was always looking out for Eleanor. They became the best of friends.

She is survived by her son George J. Hawley Jr. of Waterbury; granddaughter Katie Choiniere and her husband Andrew of Ellington; grandson Patrick Stipa and his wife Alissa of Attleboro, MA; brother Owen McKeon and his wife Patricia; and great-grandsons Nathan and Lucas Choiniere and Aidan Stipa and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Gail Hawley Stipa, her son-in-law Gerald Stipa, her sister Claire Cacace and her brother David McKeon.

All Funeral Services will be private. Arrangements entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. To leave an online condolence, please visit our website at www.westhavenfuneral. com.
