John G. Massimino 93, of East Haven beloved husband of the late Vera Zimbardo Massimino passed away on January 25, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at his home. Loving father of Neva (Anthony) Romano of East Haven. Grandfather of Antonio and Angelina Romano. Brother of Mary Jane Masciola of Alexandria, VA. John was born in New Haven on September 5, 1928 son of the late Nicola and Ida Scoppa Massimino. Prior to his retirement, John was an art teacher for Paier College of Art. John’s lifetime passion was his art. At the age of three he discovered his love for art and was blessed to be able to continue to follow his passion for 90 years. He was not only a husband, father, poppi, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and friend, he was a mentor who inspired so many who knew him. He always expressed himself through his paintings. John received numerous awards and accolades in the art world over the years. He received his BFA from Hartford Art School and also attended Paier College of Art where he later became a teacher for over 25 years. Later in life, he spent much of his time giving art critique classes and judging many local art shows. John traveled around the world painting and sketching but his favorite place was Capri, Italy where he captured its beauty while spending time with family. He loved to watch boxing and listen to Bocelli,

Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. John was all about friends and family. He could always be seen seated with friends at Dunkin’ Donuts. He will be especially missed by Patrick Lawrence who John always affectionately referred to as “my son.” He loved spending time with his daughter, son-in-law and his two grandchildren, Antonio and Angelina, who were the loves of his life. The family would also like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds and the staff at US Renal Care in Branford for all the wonderful care they gave him. The family requests those attending the service to wear bright colors rather than black to celebrate color, light and life in John’s honor.
